When it rains, it pours! Since Feb 15, I have been very close to home with my mom's broken hip surgery; I have enjoyed NOT driving. (Some days, I was on the road for 3-4 hours with 2-3 clients.) Thanks to our driver corps, all our folks were served. Did I tell you about locking myself and a client out of the car at Trader Joe's? Another time!
So my parents' home has become LAH East. Among the hospice visitors, I slipped away to take in 3 new senior clients, but at home have trained 4 new volunteers, had a marathon report for United Way reviewed by a board chairperson, been interviewed by phone (University of Illinois grad student in gerontology), and been interviewed for April edition of Communities Connection by a writer accompanied by a photographer. The LAH SHOW must go on!
I am so grateful to the LAH Board and others who have really been supportive of working at home and of my mom and dad's welfare.
Last week's Senior Canteen was a big hit! Pizza, bingo and prizes were the focus last Tuesday. Thanks to all who made it a success, especially Connie Trecartin, Beverly Bethel, and Deena Sortland. Their planning has paid off. The next canteen, March 18th, will focus on Arts and Crafts making, and April 15th will be a field trip to Tohono Chul Park. We have full listings of 2014's activities thanks to Sandy Miller. Just ask.
LAH has been invited to another Shredit Event by Ward III. This is a good way to get rid of unneeded, long-stored paperwork and to donate to your LAH group -- usually first box free and all others are $5 each. April 26 is the date. Location has yet to be announced.
The LAH Writing Group is planning and preparing a book, a collection of writing. Vicki Mills and the group have been exited to make this dream come true. Lesley Potts, the group's original leader, is hard at work pulling in the ideas and the formats. We hope to see the product this spring -- all made possible from a generous grantor. The writing group's work is available online at: http://lahseniorwriters.wordpress.com/
LAH VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY SHEETS for February due 3/4 online or dropped off. Call Michele with questions.
